United Way's Brian Gallagher to be featured on CBS Sunday Morning

Feb. 4, 2010 -- Living United is something we do together… and it involves very personal decisions about giving our time, talent, or treasure to strengthen our communities. We invite you to tune in for a very special CBS Sunday Morning at 9 a.m. on February 7 - Super Bowl Sunday - when Brian Gallagher, President and CEO of United Way Worldwide, will discuss how our personal giving decisions can dramatically change lives.

Gallagher will be in a story about the philosophy of philanthropy. The segment is inspired by a new book out next month, called The Power of Half. It’s about a family who made a very special decision. The daughter’s desire to help others led this family to sell their house, buy a smaller one, and donate half the proceeds to charity. During the process, the family grappled with how much they should donate, to whom, and how to do so most effectively. In the process, they grew closer to each other and gained a new sense of purpose. The story will also examine American giving levels, the imperatives and barriers to charity, and the effects of the economic downturn on charitable giving.

This Super Bowl Sunday special is a must-see -- pass the word. It will air in the Pioneer Valley region during the 9 to 10:30 program CBS 3 Springfield.
